A Little Change

If you actually visit the site (as opposed to reading posts via RSS), you’ll notice that I updated the look of the site. I basically just updated the stylesheet, slapped a brand new, boring masthead on top and messed with some of the content that shows up along the sides. If something doesn’t look right or you have trouble with anything, please let me know. I know a few of you were having trouble leaving comments. Hopefully that will be fixed with the new code.

BitTorrent: An Explanation

BitTorrent has been in the news quite a bit in the last week. The Register has a good article explaining BitTorrent. I personally use it mostly to get live shows and bootlegs (legal) of bands that I enjoy. I do use it every once in a while to grab a TV show that I missed as well. It’s a really great technology and it can be extremely fast.

I Want A Cool Header

See that title thingie at the top of the page? It’s boring. Yeah, I realize the site isn’t fancy either, and I’m not asking for something fancy, but I do want a new header. If there’s anyone out there with some design sense that feels like making a simple, elegant header for the site, I’d love to hear from you.

The Year In Albums

This was the first year in quite a few that I consumed less music. I saw fewer shows, bought less music and probably missed quite a few great albums. This year I listened to music a little different too. Since I moved into my new place in March, I don’t have quite the same amount of room to put CDs, so most of them got put in boxes (after I ripped them into iTunes) and are sitting in my closet. I continued to make my monthly mixes, if only for myself. So many good songs this year didn’t exactly translate into great albums. I’m not sure if it was simply because I wasn’t as entrenched, but it didn’t seem like there was a ton of great stuff released this year. There were plenty of disappointments and a few surprises.

I’m in the process of putting together the special year-end compilation. Since there hasn’t been much in the way of releases over the last month, I think I’m going to just do a single disc this year. Michael Miller has agreed to do the artwork once again.

New Band-Themed iPods

I’m SO getting the Coldplay edition.

Just Like the U2 iPod, except the device is exponentially more boring and pretentious.

Reforming Queen

I’m not so sure about this. I’m a huge fan of Brian May, but his web site is awful!

Fantasy Music League

I’m gonna be a music mogol!

Best of 2008

I’ll bet you thought you were going to see my picks for this year, didn’t ya? Not quite done with that. This made me laugh though.

My Dad, The Switcher

We were eating lunch in Kansas City on Thursday and I’m not quite sure how the subject came up, but my mum asked me if dad should get a Mac. His Dell has been having a lot of problems with viruses, being super slow and he basically hasn’t been able to use it much. "Of course he should," I replied. I told her about the iMacs and she pretty much decided to buy one for him. We walked down the street to the new Apple Store and after some discussion, she bought him a new 17" iMac, which of course I set up when we got home. His favorite feature thus far: the iTunes visualizer. He sat in front of his iMac for a good 20 minutes just staring at that thing. He came out of the room and declared it was, "better than dope."

Oh, Sweet Rumsfeld

When Rumsfeld was asked about long deployments and a lack of armored vehicles and other equipment by a soldier in Kuwait today, this was his response:

"You go to war with the Army you have," Rumsfeld replied, "not the Army you might want or wish to have."

That’s a pretty shitty answer, wouldn’t you say? What a dick. Good for the troops for speaking up and showing a little hostility.
